Photos in Movie automatically numbered

Can I enter photos so they will automatically number themselves?

I cannot think of any way that could happen.

  • When you import photos they keep their original file name.
  • When you move photos to the timeline the filename is not shown in the clip.
  • There is no numbering function in iMovie.

What are you trying to accomplish? Do you want each photo in the timeline to include a number that shows in each photo?

I would use Preview instead of iMovie. With Preview you don't have to build a movie; you just show the photos on screen and you can move back & forth among them as may be necessary. In Preview you can see the filename of each photo as you look at them and you can take notes accordingly.

You could print a list of the photo filenames and use that to take notes about each photo as you talk with your relative.

Have you developed a numbering system for your photos? It really helps to have done that in advance.

It's really straightforward. Select all the photos you want to view, then right-click (aka Control-click) the mouse and select Open With > Preview. All the selected photos will be displayed in Preview. In Preview you can also display thumbnails in the left hand sidebar, it makes navigating from photo to photo easier.
