Cannot import Chrome passwords and bookmarks to Safari

Importing passwords & bookmarks from Chrome to Safari. Downloaded both already but when I try to import them each, it looks like it will work but then gives error messages that it's not possible. Is this a security issue? Do I need to turn something off, import them, then turn security on again?

My partner and I just upgraded to new MacBook Airs using Tahoe 26.3.1. He was using Chrome and I'm trying to help him switch to Safari. However we're both over 60 and it's like the barely sighted leading the blind.

Thanks!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 26.3

What is the exact error message?

Is this a security issue?

Are you using any add-on (i.e. non-Apple) security product?

Bookmarks are exported as a plain text HTML file, just as any website might be. The only security-related concern with passwords is that they are exported in plain text.
