Wallpaper turned into a black background that says "Loading" on the lockscreen after updating to iOS 26.4. I was using one of the Unity wallpapers and after updating, it removed the wallpaper and replaced it with a black background and whenever I go to the wallpaper section, I try to download the wallpaper pack and it says, "Unable to install wallpaper".

Try using the iOS default wallpapers. This will indicate that the issue is not the iOS itself but the wallpaper image.
If the image is:
iOS may fail to re-render it and quietly falls back to black.
Settings still show the image because it is set — it just didn’t load.
I just reset my iphone and the error on unity and kaleidoscope, can not download is completely gone, now, and both are fully installed,
apple id, general, transfer or reset phone, erase all content and settings, might ask for password to turn off find device, erases, wifi password, signin, set up as new,
it might do a backup too.

Was having issues with mine as well. I changed Liquid Glass from “clear” to “tinted” and was able to reset my wallpaper. Hope this helps
I am not having an issue with wallpaper on my iphone, but on my ipad. My default wallpaper moves, the first thing I was told was to reset device to see if fixes the issue. It might work for you, give it a try. reset then see if will download properly, but first go to settings to make sure you are up to date on software.
apple id name, general software update, touch on arrow to see if up to date.
apple id name, general, transfer or reset phone, reset, reset all settings, or erase all content and settings, setup as new or from backup. When it is setup, go to the wallpaper and click on the download. i hope this helps.
did you force set your phone, press and release the volume up button, quickly press and release the volume down button, finally press and hold the side button until the apple logo appears, then release the button.
I have had the wallpaper issue for likely 6 weeks now.
I'm having the same issue after upgrading to iOS 26.4.2. Caleidoscope and Unity wallpapers fail to load, Emoji and Pride work. It might be random, but Caleidoscope was the one I was using before the OS update, and I think I had downloaded Unity too (in any case I use it on another iPhone).
I have already done that with no success. I have also tried to remove the one that shows the black background and it does not remove it.

Same thing happened to me, but instead of it being a black wallpaper, it’s instead the basic and first variant of the unity wallpaper blurred.
Same issue, I can’t delete any of my wallpapers that use the unity pack and it’s stuck on the loading screen. Kaleidoscope and unity are the only packs that give me the error screen.
