How to factory reset an old MacBook Air (2015) with Internet access?

Hello, I have an old Macbook Air (app. 2015) that I want to reset it for sale (I have a new one). I tried to do it but something went wrong and I can't:

  • get it back factory settings
  • reinstall the operation system
  • fix the disk (maybe)

Fortunately I still can connect to the Internet. Can anybody help me?

You're welcome.

FYI, OS versions properly named Mac OS X were first released in 2000 and there are at least thirteen version, depending on how you count them. If you count the versions later called macOS, then there are an additional ten. So you understand why the version is relevant when seeking guidance. Just sayin'.

Your MBA 2015 can run versions of the OS from Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite thru macOS 12 Monterey. If you have trouble installing earlier versions, you may have success installing a later version. This might require that you create a bootable USB installer using another computer, particularly if the Mac you are having trouble with has no currently working OS.

Cheers! And luck! 🍀
