iOS 26.4 for iPhone 14: should I upgrade from iOS 18?

I have an iPhone 14 currently running on iOS 18. Has the newly released iOS 26.4 solved the battery issues and any other bugs? I read there are many security upgrades in the new iOS 26 version, so should I upgrade?

Thanks for your opinions.

I'll probably upgrade for the security fixes, but I read that the new AI features of iOS 26 are only available on iPhone 15 and above. So I'll buy a newer model early next year.

Apple Intelligence features are only available on

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16 and above
  • iPhone Air
  • Assorted other platforms that have Apple Silicon processors and at least 8 GB of RAM (e.g., recent Macs)

The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not support Apple Intelligence. They do not have as much RAM as the iPhones that do.

If you don't upgrade by some time next January, iMessages and FaceTime will stop working due to expiration of a security certificate.

Apple released a version of iOS 18 with a fix for that, but only the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max were allowed to get the fix. For an iPhone 14, the only way to get the fix is to upgrade to iOS 26 (or possibly to iOS 27, this fall).
