Free Final Cut Pro? Or just a free version with paywall?

Hi. I have never had Final Cut Pro or something from the proffesional line of apps from Apple.

I just want to ask, Apple now released the Creator Studio and it looks like that all of the Pro apps are free now, but i see there are in-app purchases... Is something there like free with extendable plan what is for money? Or when i download it, there is like pay barrier and i need to pay?

Thanks very much

The Creator Studio apps are not free.

When you "get" the Creator Studio from the App Store you subscribe to it. The download may be free but the "In-App Purchases" is the subscription. The subscription incudes 1 month free (only for new subscribers.) After the free month the ongoing subscription is $12.99/month or $129/year.

The alternative is to purchase a one-time license for any of the stand-alone Pro Apps you may want. Final Cut Pro, for example, is still $299.99 one-time purchase.

Be aware that when you go to the App Store now you will find 2 versions of each of the apps that are included in the Creator Studio - a new Creator Studio version and the old stand-alone version and they have different icons. Be careful which one you pick.

Also, the Creator Studio versions are not the same as the stand-alone versions. The Creator Studio versions have additional features.

There are different (albeit functionally identical) versions of Final Cut Pro (and others, but I will focus on Final Cut Pro). There is a paid version (pay once, $299). This one has existed since 2011 (I bought it at the time and have been using all the updates since then for free).

There is a subscription version. This version can be downloaded (together with all the other bundled apps - Motion, Compressor, Logic Pro, MainStage) and be used free for (I think) 1 month, then the subscription price kicks in.

The subscription version of FCP has a different icon, so that is one way to distinguish the two:

Yes, it shows "In App Purchases", that is how it is identified in the App Store. I do not have it, but I presume that you will be able to purchase the subscription from inside the app - hence "In App Purchases" is probably an appropriate reference to that.
