26.4 update for teenagers under 18

They can still update and the phone will still work. In the UK, you would be restricted from changing any of the Communication Safety settings designed to protect minors and the Government also prevents Apple from allowing them to access websites or apps that may include adult content.

Oh you can update to iOS 26.4 if you want to but unless you can verify your age through the proper way you will be restricted from certain services and websites deemed to be providing dangerous content for minors. Right now this issue is happening in the U.K. If you don’t live in the U.K. you are not affected by this but rest assured more and more governments are passing laws doing the same thing as the U.K. Australia recently passed laws prohibiting minors from using ANY social media.

Understand that at some point you ARE going to be restricted from using certain services until you reach the age laws permit you do what you want.

Oh it’s coming to the U.S. very shortly. The recent lawsuits against Meta and Google guarantee that these tech giants are going to lock down their systems and proof of age will be at the top of the list. This and the rush to “protect our children” from social media will accelerate.

I believe it may already have come to some states, such as Texas, Utah, and Louisiana. Some of the usual suspects.

Where are you located?

Hopefully, not the U.K., since they have just introduced new security laws, which Apple must abide by.
