Problem pairing second-hand Apple watch series 6

Hello, I've got a second-hand Apple watch series 6 in excellent condition, however when I try and pair with my phone at the end of the WatchOS 26.4 install process I keep getting the same error message: Unable to Install Update

An error occurred installing the latest version of watchOS on your Apple Watch.

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!

I fear that this second hand watch might not be in as "excellent" condition as you had thought.

You could try this: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Apple Watch, or buy one from someone else - Apple Support Note especially the section on second hand devices in that article.

This resets the watch to the state it would be in for as new fresh from the factory condition. Then you can start over as with a new watch. If you run into the same problem, the watch has a hardware problem. Your iPhone should also be on the latest iOS version.
