Volume control stuck in one place on MacOS 26.4:
I tried using the command 'sudo killall coreaudiod', but it only fixes the problem temporarily.

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.
Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried starting my MacBook Pro in Safe Mode, logged in to test, and then rebooted normally as you instructed. Unfortunately, it didn't work and the issue still persists. Any other ideas?
just spit balling here—
— try removing your Dell Audio and compare default speaker/sound Control(?) seem this would be telling where the issue lies.
—If this is the Control Center use the Edit Controls feature and try removing the Sound slider...
Relaunch the Finder on the fly >Force Quit>FInder>Relaunch and then add back in your sound slider, and compare your results(?)
—Go to you Audio MIDI Setup.app and make some changes (?)

I had this issue also today for my Beats Fit Pro (apple product). Putting them in the case, e.g., disconnecting, and then taking them out fixed the issue. A reboot I tried earlier did not fix the issue. It persisted across booting.
same issue on my MacBook Pro M2 Pro with the macOS Update 26.4
Looks like, this only appears with external audio devices. Integrated loudspeaker are working fine.
Thanks for the temporary fix is the command 'sudo killall coreaudiod' or reboot the system (but it will come back)

Did the issue occur while booted into Safe Mode?
Did you eventually find a permanent fix for this, or is the sudo killall coreaudiod command still the only way to handle it?
