iMac 27 (2019) password only works with on-screen keyboard
iMac 27(2019) stopped ability to sign on by typing pword, I
now I have to use on screen keypad to type password.

Are you sure you have the right input source active when you try to log in? Check the little keyboard icon in the top right corner. What language is your normal keyboard? Do you have others on the list at system settings / keyboard / text input / edit / all input sources ?
