macOS: Ctrl shortcuts not working in browsers

Hi, I recently contacted Google One Support regarding an issue with keyboard shortcuts, but they advised me to contact Apple instead.

Here is a brief summary of what happened:

  • I was trying to use shortcuts like Ctrl + C + T or Ctrl + C + F in my browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) while using Google Drive.
  • I expected these shortcuts to create a new file or perform some action, but nothing happened.
  • Google Support informed me that this might be related to Mac keyboard or system behaviour and suggested I contact Apple Support.

I’m a bit confused about whether this is:

  • a macOS keyboard shortcut issue,
  • a browser limitation,
  • or simply that these shortcuts are not valid.

Could you please help clarify:

  1. Are Ctrl-based shortcuts like these supported on macOS?
  2. Could there be any keyboard settings affecting this?
  3. Or are these shortcuts simply not recognised by the system or browser?

Thank you very much for your help!

Short answer: this isn’t a bug with your Mac or keyboard—those shortcuts simply aren’t valid on macOS
