Can dust and cat hair cause issues with Mac M4 Mini?

There’s a lot of dust on my desk and cat hair, etc. Could this cause an issue with my Mac M4 Mini?

Mac mini, macOS 26.4

Yes dust and hair will collect on the Mac mini's bottom air intake/exhaust and build-up over time.

Then at some point, that build-up can start effecting the Mac mini's ability to cool properly.

If the Mac mini is in a dusty environment, then you may want to periodically clean the bottom vent.

To clean, shut down, disconnect the power, turn it over and gently vacuum out the bottom vent.

Do not use canned or compressed air, as it will just push the dust deeper into the Mac mini.

If you want to give the Mac mini a deeper cleaning once a year, take it to or local AASP.

Or optionally, follow some DIY guides for removing the bottom cover and cleaning.

This is totally off topic but if you're interested in a way to make access to the on button easier consider the following:

I can attest that it works very well and is very inexpensive. I got the adhesive feet on Amazon. They are available at any hardware store also.
