Trade-in new phone, data transfer, direct deduction

I would like to purchase a new phone and trade-in my current one. I’d like to know if I have the option to buy a new one, transfer data and other bits from my old phone, and still get the price deduction.

Same question as above but for online trade-in. Buy a phone, transfer data from the old, send back the old one, and get a price deduction.

I’m not interested in receiving the “deduction” as credit on a gift card. I’d like it to come off the price of the new phone, if possible.

Thank you for reading! If there is anything that isn’t clear, let me know and I’ll try to clarify 🙂

Let’s assume you’re in the U.S. and buying your iPhone from the online Apple Store. Here’s a synopsis of the timeline:

  • Online, at the Apple Store:
    • You select your new iPhone with all its choices (color, options, etc.).
    • You specify you wish to provide a trade in.
    • You supply all particulars about your trade in: serial number, condition, etc.
    • You are offered an estimate based the information you provided.
    • You submit your order, along with a payment method.
  • You receive an order acknowledgement.
  • Once your new iPhone reaches “Preparing for Shipment”, your credit card is charged the full amount for the new iPhone.
  • When your iPhone ships, you will also be shipped a box to return your trade in device.
  • You will have 14 days from that date for Apple’s trade in partner to receive the device.
  • Therefore, in that interval, you may transfer your data.
  • Once Apple’s trade in partner receives your old iPhone, they will inspect it.
  • If it meets the condition you specified at ordering time, your credit card will be credited with its trade in value.
