iPad randomly locks and asks for Touch ID while in use

I just got a new iPad (A16) to replace my old one that I fried. Everything set up just fine, but for some reason it keeps randomly closing out and asking me for my Touch ID to open up again, even when I’m actively using it. I can’t find a specific pattern to the behavior, and it’s getting annoying. I tried a hard shutdown and the problem persists. I don’t see anything in Settings that should be causing this.
