iOS 26.4 massive battery draining issue

Following the iOS 26.3 and 26.4 updates, my iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 have become incredibly power-hungry. They require charging almost twice a day and the battery even drops significantly while in standby mode.

Is there a feasible remedy? If I have to disable all features just to keep my phone’s battery percentage up, I might as well throw it away.

After paying premium prices for its devices, what is Apple offering these days? Android devices, with much lower prices, offer far more value than any iPhone currently available. This is truly disappointing.

Having been an iOS user for over a decade, I am seriously considering switching to Android for a better optimised and improved user experience.

So, what did the Apple technician say when you took the phone in for diagnositics at the Apple Store / Genius Bar or authorized Apple repair shop?

If you can't make the trip, Apple can likely run diagnostics remotely.

Support or install the Apple Support App on your phone from the App Store.

Otherwise, you should always buy what you want. We don't care what you buy.

There are 2 things you need to provide:

  • Your Battery Health percentage at Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Charge Cycles are also slightly helpful.
  • A Screenshot of your green battery graph and the top 5 apps consuming your battery at Settings > Battery > View All Battery Usage.

If you just want to purchase an Android phone, then check with your cellular provider and you may be able to trade in your iPhone and get one for little or no money. That is up to you. You don't need to worry about Apple, they are doing just fine posting record revenue increases year over year and last quarter was the best ever for iPhone with unprecedented demand.

Processes do continue to run in the background. Since the phone is new this week, then it is also finishing indexing files after setup and optimizing your photo library for the object detection algorithms. This continues for about 3-4 days and on my iPhone 17, there was even a message in the Battery Settings that said it was doing exactly that.

Enjoy your new phone!

new iphone 17s beginning of March and new ipad m4 air and a m3 air all were fine until 26.4. on March 24th . and techs ran diagnostics a couple days ago . no issues. everything is fine.

got new ipad on 21st and battery was running fine til after 26.4 . one phone was overheating during update and had nice cool breeze sitting by window so held the phone in hand next to screen so it stayed cool during update.

there is a remarkable difference. even if phones sit and you do nothing they keep dribbling down. so agree issue and i dont keep or use most of the apps. very limited as well as location services. apple tv used to run great now just drains battery 16 mins drops 2 percent 8 more minutes another 2 mins. i too have had to charge twice in one day.

im on 12 cycle counts of battery on new ipad. so agree. put feedback up this morning on a handful of things plus battery drainage.

if i use phone just on internet, the battery is draining and sometimes turning wifi on battery drops a percentage. and we are not using siri or full on intelligence yet.

Anything that can cause battery drain settings wise is off or on.

i see possible 26.4.1 coming for bugs and security this week.

im just waiting patiently..

after four zero days on chrome and tons of vulnerability exploit patches put out in first quarter i wont move to android.

they had 8 zero days in total all last year. these zero days are getting terrifying.

so id rather update for 37plus exploits and deal with some after bugs then not update at this point. my tier 2 said wait a couple of months... ummm yea bit to long for me to be waiting to update anymore.

Apple diagnostics found nothing alarming. The session ended with a few suggestions, but no measurable changes or improvements.

Apple phone and tablet devices, aside from a few, have never been known for excellent battery performance. However, it has not been that bad, unlike my iPhone 15 Pro Max

and now this 16 and 16 pro max.

It takes decades to build a reputation and a moment to ruin it all. Apple should care before it’s too late, even if you don’t.

My general usage on the iPhone 16 is around 2.5-3 hours a day, so I should at least have a full day backup, even if not a 1.5-day backup.

I’ve shared screenshots of the iPhone 16 from April 2, 2026, and April 3, 2026. You can see the usage and charging period, especially when the usage spiked to just above 8 hours on April 3. Battery life even improved a bit, when 26.1 was released, which was a stable version.

As a long-time Apple user, I have no hard feelings about their products. However, certain issues have become a recurring pattern. AI features and battery backup are not performing as expected, and this is widely known. While it’s not a platform for airing grievances, Apple’s sales have witnessed fluctuations in recent days. Simply increasing revenue doesn’t necessarily mean everything is fine. Furthermore, repeated leadership changes and the departure of Jony Ive are not positive developments.

Finally upgraded from an iPhone 13 mini (85% battery health) to a brand new 17 this week. Very happy with the new phone but surprised that the battery drain is still an issue, although not as dramatic as with the 13 mini. I completed a bunch of suggested actions to reduce battery drain, but even when the phone is sitting idle, processes appear to drain the battery.
