TCL 32R84 monitor with Mac mini M4 Pro for video/gaming?

2026 release apple monitors leaves out the size I need - 30-32. video work and gaming about 70/30. TCL 32R84 QD-Mini LED Monitor on paper looks great excepting the matte screen and I can live with that. It seems to be not reviewed by the community. I like that it does portrait to landscape. Does this work with mac min m4 pro? thanks for your earlier replies.

TCL – TCL 32R84 QD-Mini LED Monitor

This is a 3840x2160 pixel monitor with a 165 Hz refresh rate. It has

  • two HDMI v2.1 inputs that support 4K @ 144 Hz
  • one DisplayPort v1.4 input that supports 4K @ 165 Hz
  • one USB-C (DisplayPort) input

I do not know if the M4 Pro Mac mini supports 4K @ 165 Hz over plain USB-C (as opposed to Thunderbolt) when using DisplayPort v1.4. If it does, this might come at the expense of limiting the hub ports on the monitor to USB 2 speeds (due to having to allocate as many lanes as possible to carrying DisplayPort traffic, at the expense of having none to carry USB 3).

They should be able to support 4K @ 144 Hz over HDMI, although this will reduce the total number of displays that you can have from three to two. Be sure to use a HDMI v2.1 cable. Previous versions of HDMI (including HDMI v2) did not provide enough bandwidth to support 4K @ 144 Hz.

In terms of System Settings, while this display does not have Retina pixel density, the best settings for text (in terms of size) are likely to be

  • Retina "like 2560x1440" – same size text as on a 24" 1080p monitor, but more workspace
  • Retina "like 3008x1692" – same size text as the default for a (discontinued) 32" Apple Pro Display XDR
