Phone screen popping out, possibly due to battery expansion

I recently noticed my battery health on my iPhone 12 is low and then my screen started to pop out of the frame. I’ve done searches and people speculate it’s due to my battery expanding. What should I do? I don’t have enough money to currently buy a new phone and this phone was a hand me down so it’s out of warranty.

Stop using the phone immediately. A swollen battery is a dangerous thing. Take it to the Genius Bar or an Apple authorized service center and get it replaced.

It will run you $89 to get it replaced.

Thank you, will it cost additional to get the broken glass on the back replaced? I’ve been putting it off because I’m afraid I won’t be able to afford any additional costs.

Yes, it will cost you extra. Because Apple will refuse to replace the battery in a phone which is damaged elsewhere. The question you need to ask yourself is whether it will be worth spending $349 for the back glass and $89 for a new battery. That will cost you more than the phone is worth. If it was me, I'd let Apple recycle the phone and invest the $438 it will cost to fix your phone towards a new phone.
