iOS Safari not consistently loading pages when clicking links in other apps

In iOS 26.3 and 26.4, Safari does not consistently open a page when I click a link in another app. Safari will open, but will not load the page. I have to select the address bar and select the Enter/arrow button to get the page to load. This doesn’t happen every time, but does happen frequently. This has been the case from Messages, Slack, NFC tags, and I’m sure others.

I have reset Network Settings, Clear Cache/history in Safari, changed different ad block Extensions, but it’s still an issue I see regularly.

The one thing that has worked is using another browser.

I’ve seen similar behavior on recent iOS version. It looks like Safari sometimes opens but doesn’t “trigger” the page load properly when launched from another app.

A couple of things you could try (if you haven’t already):

  • Turn off Safari extensions temporarily (especially ad blockers)
  • Check Settings → Safari → Advanced → Experimental Features and reset them to default
  • Toggle Private Relay (if enabled) off/on
  • Try changing the default browser to something else, then back to Safari

Since you’ve already reset network settings and cache, this may be more of a system-level bug in iOS 26.3/26.4 rather than something specific to your device.

Good to know another browser works. This really helps narrow it down to Safari itself.

Are you using iCloud Private Relay or any VPN when this happens?
