MacBook Neo trackpad has sporadic unresponsive clicks

My 8-day old Macbook Neo trackpad has already developed an issue with unresponsive clicks. It's sporadic but keeps happening, where I have to click 2-3 times to get a response. Really annoying when trying to work on it. Running the latest Mac OS, and I've had many MacBooks before the Neo, so it's not user error.

Then you definitely have a long experience with Apple keypads, no doubt (I only go back to the Apple IIc myself. ;)) ... and this may just be a case of a manufacturing defect with a trackpad replacement due.

Since you only had this laptop for 8 days, it is still in the 10-day return window. You may want to take advantage of that instead of getting its trackpad replaced.

It is my understanding that B&H has a 30-day return policy. However, I'm not sure how they would treat Apple devices that they sell being an Authorized Apple Reseller.

It is true that Apple would not normally offer the 14-day return policy when not directly purchased from Apple, but they have been known to intercede if the reseller refuses to accept the return.

Regardless, good luck. I hope you get this resolved. I suggest that you still contact Apple Support and get a "read" from them on what your next steps should be.

One thing to take into consideration is that the trackpad on the MacBook Neo uses a mechanical mechanism for that "click". Unlike the trackpads used on the other Mac laptop that use touch sensitive sensors. That alone could make the Neo's trackpad "feel different". Use of this mechanical trackpad was by design to keep the cost of the Neo down.

Thanks for the reply. I've actually been using Macbooks since the Powerbook 170 (mine still boots up!) back in 1991, so very familiar with mechanical trackpads. This isn't a "feel" thing, it's that the trackpad is sporadically unresponsive after a firm and audible "click" on something. I suspect there may not be a fix, that the answer will be replacement of the trackpad.

I learned something interesting in this process. I usually buy direct from Apple, but because it was (and is) completely sold out online and in-store for weeks, I bought from one of their authorized dealers, B&H Photo, which had it in stock. So Apple will not do an exchange because of this and B&H is telling me to use the warranty coverage with Apple. Arrggh.
