Migration Assistant not detecting MacBooks (2019 and 2011

Trying to run migration assistant between MacBooks 2019 and 2011. Both O/S up to date, both on same network. No firewall or vpn. Machines attached through USB c to USB a cable

All instructions followed but machines not finding each other

Screen message reads:

Unable to Connect

Failed to connect to ……….MacBook Pro; please research this source

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.7

USB cable is not useable as a computer-to-computer connection. The Mac considers USB a local, peripheral interface, not a Networking interface.


Do those Macs have Ethernet? You could use an 8-conductor Ethernet cable.
