If the watch is running a newer watchOS version it won't work.

WatchOS 11 requires an iphone with ios18
WatchOS 10 requires an iphone with ios17
WatchOS 9 requires an iphone with ios16
watchOS 8 requires an iphone with ios15
you will find no new apple watch that would be running watchOS 8 so you would have to find an older secondhand watch to get it to pair with your iphone running ios15

You're welcome. Make sure it's running the correct watchOS version. If it's running something higher, it won't pair with an iPhone 6s and you won't be able to downgrade the watchOS version on it.
