Can an Apple Airport A1392 be used as a Wi-Fi repeater?

(We weren't quite ready for my father-in-law to move in so I'm trying to increase WiFi signal with equipment we currently have.)

1 - Can I use a 2nd gen Apple Airport A1392 (C86KR2JCDV2R) as a repeater (?) to boost the WiFi signal?

We have a barndominium less than 175 feet from our home. The TV in the barndominium can receive adequate signal (just barely). I want to place the old Airport in a window of our main home to boost the WiFi signal so that my father-in-law (who lives in the barndominum) can watch TV.

2 - I'll need step by step instructions (forgive me please) to make this happen. I have a Windows 11 computer without Ethernet port. The PC currently does not detect the Airport. I'm ordering an USB to Ethernet adapter so I can connect from computer to Airport which I believe I'll need to program the cable company's provided unit. (If it's a modem and router it's actually a Gateway - correct?) We currently use an Comtrend AR5312u. I also have one from AT&T that has printed into of - ADSL2+ Router Model B90-755025-15.

3 - Do I need a special adapter to connect from Airport to DSL port on Gateway?

Thank you greatly for any help you may offer!

I NEED it!

For users in the Windows environment, AirPort Utility offers a simplified way to access fundamental features typically only available for Apple device users

This is a somewhat misleading statement.....since AirPort Utility for Windows is the only way to access the settings on any of the Airport routers if you are using a PC.

But AirPort Utility for Windows will not do what you are hoping to accomplish with an AirPort Express. Just as AirPort Utility for Mac will not do what you are hoping to accomplish.....or AirPort Utility for the iPhone will not either.

I remembered I still have an older Airport Base Station. Would that work better than Airport Express?

No, not for the purpose that you are asking about.

Now....if you set up the older AirPort Base Station as your "main" router......then.....you could configure the AirPort Express to act as a "repeater". Apple calls this "extending" the network.

But, Apple's technology for "repeating" or "extending" a network is proprietary. It will only work when you have an Apple AirPort router set up as your "main" router and another AirPort configured to "extend" or repeat the network.

Ask your cable company what device might be compatible with a "Gatekeeper" to repeat the Wi-Fi signal that the Gatekeeper is providing.

Yes, if your "main" router is also an Apple AirPort router.

No, if it's not.

The AirPort that you ask about is not compatible with either of these devices.

It would be compatible with another Apple AirPort router......a Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme or another AirPort Express.

I know you've done this for a while but is this not true?

Also - I remembered I still have an older Airport Base Station. Would that work better than Airport Express?

I DO appreciate your time and thoughts!
