How do I fix Pages crashing when creating new documents on Mac?

Every time I open Pages this morning, the document shows up for a second, then the whole thing crashes. Even when I simply open Pages, it opens fine, I can get to the create a new document window, but when I create a new blank document, it shows up for a second, then crashes.

I tried holding shift when opening it, but the problem persists. I moved Pages to the trash, emptied the trash, and reinstalled Pages, but the problem continues. I am using the newest version of Pages and my OS is also current. Any suggestions? Thanks.

@VikingOSX – you were unhelpful and I don't appreciate your condescending tone, almost as if the problem occuring was OP's fault.

I had the same thing happen and it frustrated me greatly. I had tried reinstalling it several times, booting my Mac up into Safe Mode and all that jazz. I read the crash report to see what kept crashing Pages every single time, and what came up was:

-[NSPopover _accessibilityEstablishParentChildRelationship...]

What ended up solving it was quickly pressing Option+CMD+T for showing the top bar, which I had hidden before. Could also be the case with the Inspector (Option+CMD+I). Hope this helped!

Dont' use terms such as "latest" or "newest." State explicit versions of Pages and the operating system. Telling us the year and model of your Mac also helps.

I have Pages v15.2 running on both Sequoia v15.7.5 and Tahoe 26.4.1 and have no issues whatsoever with this version of Pages.

Do you have any anti-virus product installed, or using any so-called "Mac Cleaner" applications? If so, these need to be completely uninstalled and your Mac rebooted. Also, ensure that you have sufficient remaining storage on iCloud as if it is close to full, Pages will misbehave attempting to write a new document to iCloud.

I suggest you shutdown your Mac, and then boot into Safe Boot Mode for your Mac architecture. Launch Pages and try creating a new document (e.g. blank template) on your local drive. Did that work okay? If so, reboot and repeat this approach again to see if the issue is resolved.

I have the same problem. Pages unexpectedly quit. I have Macbook Air using Tahoe 26.4.1 All the pages I have tried to open quit in a few seconds. All software updated. Enough storage. Have rebooted several times. Trashed the previous page app and reinstalled a new page app. Checked the validity of fonts. Still doesn't work. Any suggestions? I tried the suggestion of Option+CMD+T and Option+CMD+I). Nothing happened. Any suggestions. thanks
