Imported graphic inserts at project start, not current frame in Motion.

Why won't imported graphic insert at current frame when in Motion > Settings it says it should. Graphic always inserts at start of project.

I'm not sure what the deal is. I hate to reset preferences — so I **rarely** do and I don't know if this is actually the way Motion is supposed to work or if it's a bug (and I've been using Motion for about 18 years now).

Here's what I have observed (playing with this today):

  1. Using import will import the graphic into the currently selected/active Group (so - no new "layer" was created). Actually, it looks like Motion automatically places *all* images/graphics placed by Import into the original Group created when the project is created. [Therefore, again: not a new "layer"?]
  2. Dragging and dropping graphics into a project will create a **New** Group to contain the "import" — Thus "Creating a New Layer" at either the Start of the Project or at the Current Frame depending on preference.

If this is a "reasonable explanation" ... lol — your guess is as good as mine! The *explicit* language of the Preference setting is a little "loose" if you ask me. What exactly constitutes a "new layer"?? And how, exactly, do Groups play into it? Because, I also tried resetting the starting frame of an "import group" to the beginning of the project and then dragging and dropping a new image into that specific group directly into the Layers List order of layers (and not directly to the Canvas) and it still aligned with the playhead and not the start of this pre-existing group! Go figure!

I don't know why my previous post was removed...

Here is what I see (preferences set to "Create Layers: at current frame"):

  • importing puts stuff at the start of project (just as Fox noted)
  • dragging to the layers list puts stuff at playhead position
  • dragging to the canvas puts stuff at playhead position
  • dragging to the timeline puts stuff at the position it's dropped

As I suggested before, deleting preferences might help.
