PDF files greyed out in Calendar attachments (iOS 26.2.1

Unable to Select PDF Files in Calendar Attachments (iOS 26.2.1) – Files Greyed Out

Device & System Information

  • Device: iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iOS Version: 26.2.1
  • Storage: ~50% used (512GB total)
  • Region: Malaysia
  • iCloud Drive: Enabled
  • Third-party cloud services: Enabled (e.g. Google Drive / others)

Issue Description

I am unable to attach any PDF files when creating an event in the Apple Calendar app.

When tapping “Add Attachment”, the file picker opens normally and displays available files from iCloud Drive. However, all files with .pdf format appear greyed out and are not selectable, while other formats such as PNG, JPEG, and HEIF are selectable without any issue.

This issue affects all PDF files, not just specific ones.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Calendar app
  2. Create a new event
  3. Tap Add Attachment
  4. Browse files (iCloud Drive / On My iPhone)
  5. Attempt to select a PDF file

Expected Result

PDF files should be selectable and attachable to Calendar events, similar to image formats.

Actual Result

  • All PDF files appear greyed out (disabled)
  • Cannot tap or select any PDF file
  • Image formats (PNG, JPEG) work normally

File Details

  • Location: iCloud Drive
  • File size example: ~26 KB
  • File naming: Standard (no unusual characters)
  • Files can be opened normally in Files app

Troubleshooting Attempted

  • Restarted device → No change
  • Tested different storage locations (iCloud & local) → Same issue
  • Issue persists across all PDF files
  • iCloud Drive is enabled
  • Calendar app has necessary permissions

When the Issue Started

  • Issue began after upgrading from iOS 18 to iOS 26
  • Previously, attaching PDF files worked normally on earlier iOS versions

Additional Observations

  • This appears to be a format handling or permission regression specific to PDF files in Calendar attachments. Likely related to changes in Files picker API or document type filtering in iOS 26

Questions for Apple Community

  • Is PDF attachment still officially supported in Calendar on iOS 26?
  • Could this be a known bug or regression?
  • Is there any workaround (e.g. using specific storage location or file conversion)?

Impact

This issue significantly reduces usability, especially for:

  • Attaching receipts
  • Sharing documents in scheduled events
  • Workflow involving PDF-based documentation

I have the exact same issue.

Model: iPhone 17 Pro Max

iOS version: 26.5

I have 1TB of storage and using less than half of that locally on my iPhone. On my iCloud I have 2TB and using about 1.3TB on that.

The calendar is an iCloud calendar and not third party like Google.

The only files it lets me attach are image files (i.e. jpeg, png) and audio (i.e. wav, mp3). I cannot attach PDFs. They are greyed out.
