Since the latest update I can no longer block contacts. The button is there, click it , it does not save it. So annoying. I’ve got to the phone app and tried to add a contact does NOt work. I hate doing updates because of this type of recklessness.

Dude, I literally have two identical phones, one for work and one personal. I updated only the personal phone to 26.5 and now can't bloack unknown calls, emails or contacts. The work phone was not updated and works just fine still. The update from 26.4 to 26.5 caused this problem

Then go back to the INFO button again and look at the contact and UNBLOCK is gone

When something works & then it stops the same time as many other users right after an update, it IS the update. I have used the Block feature for years but has stopped working completely. I would like it fixed, not a work around. It is an issue on my iPhone 11 & my iPad.
my other phone is running IOS 26.4 and its not having this problem. This phone (Iphone 17 Pro Max) was not having this problem before the update to 26.5 so it clearly IS the update that caused it
Unlike some Android devices, contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in the SIM. They are synced to an email account that you have Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo, or any Other
You can just add the email account that hosts your contacts to the Mail app and enable Contacts.
If you have a corporate email account added through a profile on your device, please check with your organization's system administrator.

I use Focus/Do Not Disturb for dealing with calls from people whom I don't want to talk to in a specific time or place, but may want to talk to at other times. For example, most of my work contacts aren't allowed when I am using my "Home" focus. It's a lot easier to deal with multiple contacts at a time using Focus.
Read the room. Everyone here is saying the issue wasn't an issue before the updated to the 26.5 update. In this case, it is the update's fault and it needs to be fixed. I was able to block all these spam calls literally right before I updated my phone. Now? It's the same issue as the rest of the people here are experiencing. I try to block the number, it doesn't save. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to understand that you might be wrong and it is an update issue. So stop trying to tell people that it's not.
I'm having the same exact issue. The block feature was working fine until I updated my phone to 26.5 and now can't block any calls, emails or contacts. I tried restarting my phone, hard resetting it, and resetting my network settings and nothing has helped. I also made sure there were no weird setting on my iphone like from screetime like a few help videos pointed out, and all my settings are fine. We need a fix!
I have the same issue, I have even tried blocking by editing the callers contact card, it changes to block but as soon as I close the contact card it unsaves the block

It may make you feel better, but it probably doesn't cut down on spam. You're blocking spoofed numbers, not real ones.
It’s on classic. I say the last update because 30 minutes prior I was able to block anyone now the button doesn’t work. It’s the update period !
