No internet connection after update to Tahoe 26.4.1

My MacBook Pro M1 automatically updated to Tahoe 26.4.1 yesterday. After the update it can not go online. It shows it has connection to WiFi, but is doesn’t. It is the same problem if I try to connect WiFi via my phone. What to do?

On your Mac, hold down the Option key, and then, click on the Wi-Fi icon in the macOS menu bar. You should be presented with a drop-down menu with a list of items.

Please provide either a screen shot of the list, or just provide us with the following values from it:

  • IP Address = ? <<< This value should start with either 10, 172, or 192. If it starts with anything else, then your Mac is not communicating with your local wireless router.
  • Router = ?
  • Internet = ? <<< Should say "Reachable"
  • Security = ?
  • RSSI = ?
  • Noise = ?
  • PHY Mode = ?
  • MCS Index = ?

An alternate method to check DNS functionality would be as follows:

  1. Open the Terminal app.
  2. Enter the following command at the prompt, and then, press the Enter key: ping -c5 cloudflare.com
  3. If that ping fails, then enter this command: ping -c5 1.1.1.1

Note: A successful ping would result in "5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0.0% packet loss" Anything else would indicate a ping failure.

<< Wi-Fi not available: >>

Launch a browser and enter this easy to remember all-numeric IP address:

1.1.1.1

in the address bar,  and press return.

If you get the CloudFlare** splash page (or more recently a CloudFlare error message with ad)  your internet is working, but DNS lookup may not be working.

**CloudFlare is NOT part of the solution, they just own the easiest to remember all-numeric IP Address (does not require a DNS lookup.)

Pease let readers know your results.

Happend after de the 26.4.1 update!

I tried forgetting the network, Deleting SystemConfiguration Files. But issues stays after starting up my macbook.
All my other devices have no wifi issues.

Many thanks!

Does this MacBook Air work when connected on another Wi-Fi network?

If you have any add-on VPN apps installed, remove all, restart, and test again. Disabling doesn’t always disable.

My temporary solution was solved, but the experience made me very unhappy.

I will send you the solution, you can try it, I hope it will be helpful to you:

1. Clean the corresponding certificate in the keychain 2

. Clean the DNS of the Mac (sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder)

3. Select the identity of the Mac (actually the certificate) is to connect to the wifi to enter the password page has an identity, you choose the default Apple certificate

Although this can be connected, but once you forget the network, or restart the computer, the process of connecting to wifi will be very slow, or even the connection will fail. The experience is too poor, I hope to upgrade the system optimization as soon as possible.

1.1.1.1 brought up cloudflare for me.

If you entered 1.1.1.1 into a web browser on your iPhone and the Cloudflare website appears, you verified that you can access that site by using its IP address. What happens if you use https://cloudflare.com instead of the address?

If the Cloudflare website appears then DNS is correctly set already for your iPhone. If not, then something is blocking DNS service for your phone.

Seeing router and this Mac on different subnets could also mean you have multiple devices dispensing DHCP IP addresses on your network. The correct number for simplicity is EXACTLY ONE, and for home use that is likely to be the main Router nearest the cable-entry.

In most cases, you will want all other access points to be set to NOT provide DHCP address.

I'm not very familiar with Eero, but what caught my eye is that your Macs are on a different subnet than your router.

That is, the Macs are on 192.168.5.x, but your router is on 192.168.4.x. They should be on the same subnet, unless you purposely have created separate VLANs. I'm also assuming that your router is providing DHCP service that includes either your ISP's DNS servers or ones that you specifically chose.

Regardless, too many people have now hijacked the original OP's post and the potential solution may be completely different. As such I encourage you to start a new post that includes a complete description of your current network hardware, a full description of what the issue you're having, and what you have tried, so far yourself to resolve it.

Maybe. Possibly. Could also be a /23 (255.255.254.0) or wider CIDR, too.

The Apple Wi-Fi display really should show the CIDR.

If using a more common /24 (255.255.255.0) or narrower CIDR and separate subnets, could also have the router routing between subnets.

It seems eero configurations can be using a /22 (255.255.252.0) subnet, too: https://www.reddit.com/r/eero/comments/kkqc9b/eeros_on_different_subnets/

Which in aggregate can mean this isn’t a subnet issue. Not overtly, that is. Just a wide CIDR, and which might cause other issues if enough of the thousand-ish hosts are chatty.
