Magic Keyboard is losing charge quickly

Why is my Magic Keyboard losing so much charge? I'm running macOS 26.3.1 on an M1 iMac.

Ok, the A2520 is the "2nd generation" Apple Magic Keyboard. It should be "full-sized" and equipped with Touch ID. It uses a Lightning port for charging, and initially setting up the keyboard to a computer.

There are only a few reasons why this keyboard would be losing charge quickly, and they are:

  • The keyboard was not used for an extended period of time (think months) will little or no charge. The rechargeable lithium batteries will lose their ability to charge fully if this is the case.
  • The keyboard is defective.

You should expect a 3-5 year useable life for these keyboards. Of course, there are expections at either end.
