You presumably refer to locations, a dropped pin, that you create with a long-touch (i.e. touch-an-hold) of your finger on the map page...
These marked locations are automatically named - the name being based upon the geographic position, address or recognisable feature near to the selected point - when the marked location is created.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no mechanism by which you can rename a marked location.
The article talks about tapping “i” on the Place card to edit the name. This does not exist in iOS 26.
Whether a bug, a feature gap or other, Apples software continues its death spiral…. Can’t rename a dropped pin 🤦♂️

When you initially drop a pin it will show the location. After that swipe up the drawer on the bottom to show additional details about the location and select the Pin option. Now that you have saved the location as a Pin, you can go into Places and choose Pin. That location will appear there with the info button next to it and will allow you to tap it to change the description. This is on iOS 26.4.2.
