What do you mean by an Activation error?

Are you seeing the Activation Lock where it is locked to the original owner?

If the Activation Lock is what you are seeing then you have 2 options:

  • Provide the Apple Account/Password to remove the lock
  • Your grandma would need to submit the original purchase receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller. Apple does not get involved in third party sales, so a receipt from another source is not likely to be accepted.

Recently there have been a number of similar posts here. All involve iPads like yours that cannot run iOS/iPadOS 11 or higher. IOS 11 is now the minimum OS that supports iCloud functions on Apple's mobile devices:

System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support

That may be affecting activation, as your iPad 2 can run no higher OS than v9.3.x The other common factor in other report is that the iPads sit unused for extended periods of time, and you wrote:

... and it haven’t been used in long time so yeah……….

Only Apple can tell you for certain it the iCloud requirements affect actitivation, and Apple do not participate here. What I post is based on my observations.

My iPad 2 has not been turned off in several years. I still use it daily for a puzzle game that was never converted to 64-bit. Mine has not asked for re-activation—yet.

Multiple recent posts, concerning unresolvable issues with re-activation, suggest that Apple has finally removed all server-side and re-activation support for obsolete 32-bit devices.

As all 32-bit Apps have already been retired and removed from the Apple App Store, it is perhaps unsurprising that the long-ago obsolete devices are now potentially unusable.
