how can i stop "my passport for mac" from disconnecting automatically. Every time I got to my mac mini I get the message to eject next time before disconnecting. I am not disconnecting it.

Control (right) - click on the disk's icon and select Get Info from the Contextual menu. In the Get Info window it will show how the drive is formatted:
Yes. I have it connected using usb C to USB C cable that came with it. It is connected directly to my mac mini. I have looked up my question and was directed to change the hard drive sleep settings but the directions didn't track with my system. There was another directive to sign in using the "safe" method and making a change but I don't want to do that. I don't want to ruin the external hard drive by having it disconnect on its own without being ejected. Thank you
Yes. It is quite common for drives to disconnect automatically when connected via a hub but less so when connected directly as yours is.
Drives do occasionally disconnect but it should not be a regular event.
Somebody else might chime in with an idea of how to prevent it.

Is it connected via a hub?
Sorry, it is not connected via hub but directly to mac mini
Is your My Passport an HDD (rotational) or SSD (solid state)?
If a rotation does it have it's own power supply?
I don't know how it's formatted. It is My Passport Ultra for Mac. portable HDD, if that helps. I would not be bothered except for the belief that this could cause the Passport to become corrupted. Ty

Is it an SSD or HDD (rotational) drive?
If it's a rotational drive does it have it's own power supply?
