iPhone 16 lower volume after using Bluetooth headphones

iphone 16 issue. I have JBL bluetooth headphones. Everytime I take them off my iPhone lowers the volume to a very low level by itself. If I get a call I cannot hear my phone if I am outside or its not near me. Every time I have to go to sound and haptics and increase it to max. I tried various steps. Nothing worked. Why does iPhone do this on it's own? I have the latest iOS downloaded as well. 26.4.1.

Hi LogicProGuy,

The issue you're describing where your iPhone 16 volume drops very low after disconnecting Bluetooth headphones is a known problem that can occur with iOS. Here are several steps you can try to resolve it:

1. Forget and Re-pair Bluetooth Headphones: Go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the (i) icon next to your JBL headphones, and select Forget This Device. Then re-pair them and test if the volume issue persists.

2. Check Sound Settings: Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Make sure the volume slider is set to your preferred level. Also check if Headphone Safety is enabled under Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety, as this feature can automatically reduce loud sounds.

3. Disable Reduce Loud Sounds: If Headphone Safety is on, try turning off Reduce Loud Sounds temporarily to see if it resolves the low volume issue after disconnecting headphones.

4. Restart Your iPhone: A simple restart can often resolve temporary audio routing issues. Hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off. Turn it back on after 30 seconds.

5. Check for iOS Updates: Even though you're on iOS 26.4.1, make sure you're on the latest version by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

6. Reset All Settings: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will not delete your data but will reset all system settings to default, which may fix audio routing issues.

7. Check Accessibility Settings: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual and make sure Phone Noise Cancellation is turned on. Also check Balance is set to center.

8. Turn Off Attention Aware Features: Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features, as this can sometimes affect volume behavior.

9. Update JBL Headphone Firmware: Check the JBL app for any firmware updates for your headphones, as outdated headphone firmware can cause compatibility issues.

10. Contact Apple Support: If none of these steps work, the issue might be hardware-related or a deeper software bug. Consider visiting an Apple Store or contacting Apple Support for further assistance.

Let us know if any of these steps help resolve the issue!

Do you have a link where this is a known problem with iOS 26.4.1?

It seems your AI response has not been proofread or tested by you before posting. The recommendation for check for an iOS update even though they are using 26.4.1 makes no sense, that is the latest iOS version available. You could have checked that yourself.

Hello v1v3km,

I tried it all besides the reset iPhone. If I recent it will remove the settings I set up. ( 7. Check Accessibility Settings: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual and make sure Phone Noise Cancellation is turned on. Also check Balance is set to center.)

Phone Noise Cancellation there is no option. I chose Voice Isolation. Could that be it?

I am hesitant to update to 26.4.2 because searching online people with iPhone 16e show their battery life dropped and they have network issues among others.

Hope that helps.
