Messenger emoji reactions not showing on iPhone and iPad

In Messenger Chat, my chat recipient responds to message with an emoji like thumbs up or LOL. I can see that he does in the preview, but they don't appear on either my iphone or ipad. They DO appear on my Windows destop. I have cleared the cache on both many times. Deleted and re-installed the app many times. This has only recently started happening. We have a 7 year long chat with many hundreds of shared messages and memes and photos. Happy to delete many of those if the sheer volume is an issue - but cannot find a way to do that. Why are his emoji responses now not showing on my Apple devices? Or they sometimes do for half a day, then disappear again. I'm frustrated and perplexed.

Thanks for your response, but it's ONLY happening on Mac Devices. The emojis are clearly visible on my desktop, which is Windows 10. Confusing that it's only happening on Mac devices, which is why I tried the question here.

Are you accessing Messenger on your Windows desktop using an app or a web browser? Meta no longer provides Desktop App support for Messenger, so I assume you are using a browser for access, and you can do the same on your Mac devices.

Apps on the other hand are platform dependent where Meta maintains support and features in that specific app, and each app also may have their own bugs that would also be resolved by Meta. The apps supported by Meta are typically just Android/iOS apps where each are maintained separately. Not unusual to see a bug in an Android version not seen in the iOS version and also the other way around. Eventually Meta gets around to resolving bugs that users have reported to them and you can also do that here:

You would need to contact Messenger as that is a Meta app. It has been updated 9 times in just the last month and based on previous updates, there have been bugs introduced that are later resolved with a future update. The fix will need to come from an app update, so always make sure you are using the latest app. Since you Deleted and Re-installed Messenger, you would have received the latest version, but it will likely require a bug fix in a future version.

Thank you for your reply. I have followed your advice -using the two different methods for iPhone and iPad. Restarted both devices several times. Still not working properly. The emoji responses are visible late at night - Australia time- and occasionally in the middle of the day, for no apparent reason. Then they disappear again.

I didn’t even mention the fact that the message you are typing sometimes disappears from view, and you have to flip briefly onto another chat then back for your text to become visible. The fact that messenger has updated nine times and this has been going on for at least a month -the text issue has been going on for MONTHS. Silly me, I thought they would have fixed it by now. My iPhone is a 17, and my iPad is only 2 years old, so I’m dealing with relatively new devices.

You would think so, but unfortunately Meta's track record on updates has not been the greatest. It is evident in the sheer number of updates, that very little testing in house is being performed before an update is released and it truly is the users that are the testers. It is too bad Meta does not offer a Support Forum for their users to discuss the issues with their apps, but for some reason they don't. Even direct support from Meta has been difficult and with their recent announcement of a 10% cut in their workforce, not sure how much better it will get.
