iMac alone can't send sms, you need and iphone to set up text forwarding as outlined here https://support.apple.com/en-us/102545

To add to what razmee209 mentioned, there are a few things you can check if the SMS option is missing even after setting up Text Message Forwarding:

1. Make sure you're signed into Messages on both your iPhone and iMac with the same Apple ID. Sometimes signing out and back in on the Mac fixes it.

2. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and verify your iMac is toggled on. If it's already on, try turning it off and back on.

3. Check that your iMac is on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone. Text forwarding requires them to be on the same network.

4. On your Mac, open Messages > Settings > iMessage and make sure your phone number is listed under "You can be reached for messages at". If it's not, that's likely the reason SMS isn't showing up.

5. If you've recently updated to Tahoe, try restarting both devices after the update. Sometimes the forwarding setup needs a fresh restart to kick in.

If none of these work, you might need to contact Apple Support directly since it could be a bug with the latest Tahoe update.

Thanks for the rapid and detailed responses! 8+)

razmee209;

Followed the steps in your link. There are several links in that Apple support page. Followed all those link/steps.

Also followed you instruction (1 - 5). Interestingly, I have five different Apple email addy's (one @icloud.com, two @me.com, two @mac.com) and one phone number listed and checked. I UN-checked all but the email used in both my iPhone & iPad.

Also did a sign out and in on my iMac.

I do believe this problem occurred after updating Tahoe to 26.4.1 a few days ago. I can remember not having constant "Not Delivered" warnings before that update. I had seen that warning before but it would have been very irregular and infrequent, I usually wrote it off as a problem with the mostly PC-using recipients! ;+|
