Logic Pro Studio Strings installed, no sound

Hello,

I'm running Logic 12.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.7.4.

The Sound library manager shows that Studio Strings are installed, yet when I add a new track with the Studio Strings plugin on it, I get a popup asking me to install Studio Strings from the library. The plugin does not produce any sounds (it seems like samples are missing).

When the installation is done, Studio Strings still doesn’t work (nothing plays when I hit the keys. I have tried a bunch of different presets in all 88 keys midi range)

Other Logic plugins work fine (Electric Piano, Alchemy, Retro Synth, Mellotron, etc.). Only Studio Strings plays nothing when I hit any key on my midi keyboard.

I have tried:

- Reinstalling Logic Pro X, rebooting Mac, etc.

- Deleting my sound library and redownloading everything

- Deleting my Logic Pro X preferences and Control Surfaces file.

- Basically every step listed in If Logic Pro for Mac isn't working - Apple Support except for creating a new user.

What could the problem be? I have attached screenshots of the issue

Thanks

I solved it!!

Turns out that in parallel of the new Logic Pro Library.bundle file, I still had these two folders:

'/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/Studio Horns'

'/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/Studio Strings'

Deleting them seems to solve the issue and make these two plugins usable again!

Hey, I've dealt with this exact same issue before and it's super frustrating. The thing is, even though the Sound Library shows Studio Strings as installed, the actual sample files sometimes don't get placed in the right location.

Here's what worked for me when I had this problem on Logic 12:

1. First, try opening Sound Library Manager from the top menu (Sound Library > Open Sound Library Manager). Look for Studio Strings and see if it actually says "Installed" or if it's greyed out. Sometimes it shows as installed but the samples never fully downloaded.

2. If it says installed but still doesn't work, try uninstalling the pack from Sound Library Manager first, then reinstall it. I know you said you redownloaded everything but make sure you're doing it through the Sound Library Manager specifically, not just the general download.

3. Check your sample paths. Go to Logic Pro > Settings > Library and see if the sample file locations are pointing to the right folder. Sometimes after an update the path gets reset or points to an old location.

4. Another thing that helped me - check if you have enough free disk space. The Studio Strings pack is about 1.85 GB and if your drive is nearly full, the install might appear to complete but the samples don't actually get written properly.

5. Last resort that actually fixed it for me: create a new test user account on your Mac, log into Logic there, and try adding Studio Strings. If it works on the new account, the issue is with your user library permissions or preferences. Then you'd need to dig into the ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/ folder.

Also make sure your audio driver is set up correctly in Logic Preferences > Audio. Even though other plugins work, sometimes the sample-based instruments behave differently with certain audio settings.

Let me know if any of these help or if you're still stuck!

Hi v1k3km! Thanks for the detailed response!

I followed every one of your steps;

  1. It says installed
  2. I uninstalled it from Sound Library Manager and then reinstalled it; same issue
  3. Location is correct ('/Users/davidmurray/Music/Logic Pro Library.bundle')
  4. 51gb free disk space, so that shouldn't be an issue
  5. I created a new user account and launched Logic. since Logic's library is per-user, it prompted to create a new one. I clicked yes, then created a Studio Strings track. It prompted me to install the Studio Strings samples and I clicked "yes". Once it was done, Studio Strings didn't work (no sound) and when I restarted Logic Pro, I got the same prompt again, asking me to install the Studio Strings samples. Even in a new user account, I get the same issue :(

Would you (or someone else) have any other suggestions?

Is this forum the official way to report a bug to Apple?

Thanks
