Is it legal to use Apple fonts in Canva?

I would like to use an Apple font in Canva. I do all my design work on a Mac. Is it legal for me to upload an Apple font for my use only?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.7

Apple fonts are licensed for use on Apple devices and for personal and commercial use within the Apple ecosystem. However, uploading them to third-party platforms like Canva may violate Apple's font licensing agreement.

Here are some things to consider:

1. Apple's font license allows you to use the fonts for display and printing on Apple devices, but redistributing or uploading them to external platforms is generally not permitted.

2. Canva already has a vast library of fonts available for use, many of which are free and legally licensed for use on their platform.

3. If you need fonts similar to Apple's system fonts (like San Francisco), Canva may have comparable alternatives that are fully licensed for use on their platform.

4. For personal use only, some font licenses may be more permissive, but uploading a font file to a cloud-based service typically counts as distribution under most EULAs.

5. If you want to be certain, you could contact Apple's legal team or review the macOS Software License Agreement for the specific font you want to use.

I'd recommend sticking with Canva's built-in font library to avoid any potential licensing issues.

No.

But if you want the official “no” from the official people — that’s decidedly not us — contact Apple Legal directly and ask them: Legal - Contact Us - Apple

You may be able to find a close match to a font using a service such as WhatTheFont or The Font Squirrel Matcherator, and the near-match font might or can have terms better aligned with your particular intended usage.
