Apple TV app on Android TV: Videos stop after a few seconds

Our Android TV with the Apple TV app suddenly can't play any videos, well not exactly. The video seems to start but only lasts a few seconds before it pops up claiming there is an issue.

Updated the TV itself, first tried resetting the apple tv app then fully reinstalled, and nothing. This had worked for years. Suddenly now it cannot play any video directly from the app. Tried multiple different shows. Ran the troubleshooter, troubleshooter claims no issues. Everything we try to watch just gets a couple seconds in and then throws up a message claiming an issue. However, if I open Apple TV on my android phone and chrome cast the show to the TV, no problem. Plays just fine. Obviously not the best solution though, and doesn't make any sense why it's stopped working.

Device is a mecool KM2 plus. Upgraded to latest version (android tv os 14) and the apple tv app is the latest version .Obviously installing/reinstalling the app forced me to log back in and it cleared all data, so that isn't the issue.

Hey crossmr2, that's really annoying when the app just stops working out of nowhere. Since you've already tried reinstalling and resetting, here are some other things to try:

1. Clear the app cache and data. On Android TV, go to Settings > Apps > Apple TV > Storage > Clear Cache and then Clear Data. This is different from reinstalling and can fix corrupted cache files.

2. Check your internet connection speed. The Apple TV app needs a stable connection of at least 15 Mbps for HD streaming. Run a speed test on your Android TV box to make sure your bandwidth is sufficient.

3. Try changing DNS settings. Sometimes DNS issues can cause streaming to fail. On your Mecool KM2 Plus, try setting your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) in the network settings.

4. Check if there's a firmware update for your Mecool box. Even though you mentioned the latest Android TV OS, manufacturers sometimes release their own firmware updates that fix compatibility issues.

5. Disable any VPN or ad blockers. If you have a VPN or ad-blocking software running on your Android TV box, try turning it off. These can sometimes interfere with Apple's streaming services.

6. Check if your Google account needs re-authentication. Sometimes the link between your Google account and Apple TV app breaks. Try signing out of your Google account on the TV and signing back in.

7. Report the issue to Apple. Since casting from your phone works fine, this is likely an Android TV-specific bug. You can report it through the Apple TV app settings or contact Apple Support. The fact that it worked for years and suddenly stopped suggests it might be related to a recent app update on Apple's end.

It's frustrating that it happened suddenly after working for so long. The casting workaround is a good temporary solution while you sort it out. Let us know if any of these help!
