M4 Mac Mini: USB 3.0 camera shows rainbow static. USB 2.0 cable fixes it
Hi,
I have an ELP 4K USB 3.0 camera connected to my M4 Mac Mini running Tahoe 26.1. After every restart, the camera would work initially but then displays rainbow static and corrupted video after reopening the stream.
I accidentally discovered that using an Apple 240W USB-C Charge Cable (which only supports USB 2.0 speeds / 480 Mbps) completely fixes the issue. System Information confirms the camera negotiates at 480 Mbps with this cable vs 5 Gbps with any proper USB 3.0 cable.
With static/corrupted images, the camera shows 5 gb/s
With apple cable, the camera shows 480mb/s
So it seems like the M4 Mac Mini has a problem re-enumerating USB 3.0 cameras, and falling back to USB 2.0 works around it.
Has anyone else seen this? Is this a known M4 / Tahoe bug?
Thanks
