Yahoo Finance community pages not loading on Mac

Anyone else having an issue with any browser (Firefox, Chrome or Safari) where the Community pages on Yahoo Finance don't load on their desktop Mac OS 26.4.1 Tahoe? Like if you go to https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AAPL/community/ or https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AMZN/community/ , most of the page loads, but the community part doesn't. It just remains gray and looks like it is loading. Tried on other Windows computers at the same time on the same network and no issue.

Thank you all, you are on the money, even though I am not using Norton's browser add in, by having Safe Web activated, that was apparently blocking it (even though it didn't show any alarms). When I temporarily deactivated that, pages loaded correctly.

However, even adding finance.yahoo.com to the exclusion list, it didn't load the page.

I will try and open a case with Norton to see why this isn't working as expected, and let people know the results.

Thanks again for the help.

Still working through this with Norton, but if anyone is interested, you can keep Norton running but turn off HTTPS scanning and the site will load. Still shouldn't have to do that/disable it, but at least a less intrusive workaround.

You wouldn't want HTTPS Scanning turned on anyway. That uses a root certificate installed by Norton to decrypt your normally secure internet traffic to route it to Norton servers making them a man in the middle. With it off your communications remain end to end encrypted like they are intended to prevent unencrypted internet traffic from being intercepted.

Despite what they claim as giving you more protection, the devil is in the details on what is actually being done and you also have to trust them on what they are going to do with your unencrypted data. Recently there has been a class action lawsuit filed against Norton for collecting and sharing customers private information with third party marketing companies. While SafeWeb is not specifically listed in the complaint, it does include most other services that they offer.

You should uninstall Norton completely and end your subscription. As Mac Jim ID explained, Norton has actually made your Mac less secure. And the https scanning is part of one of the larger subscription packages that you have, so you could also join the class action lawsuit.

Because it is a requirement of certain government contracts my employer has, my work computer has to have anti-virus and other security tools installed. However, the employer abandoned Norton many years ago because of its many conflicts with the Mac and Windows operating systems in use on and off site, as well as general bugginess that resulted in many user problems.

Like Mac Jim, on my MacBook Pro that site fully loads, with scores of commentary (and many ads!). It appears something on your Mac is blocking those comments. It could be something you set up to filter web page contents, such as ad or pop up blockers, custom DSN or other internet settings, "security" tools (including VPN or other things Mac Jim mentions), or even settings on your router. My setup is mostly a vanilla one but do you recall customizing any of these things sometime in the past? Probably not a router setting if your Windows machines work ok, however.

When did the page stop loading properly? 26.3.1 (a) was a pure security update, and 26.4.1 has some additional security updates.

As you've been told there is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This documents describe what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community and Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support.

There are no known viruses, i.e. self propagating, for Macs.  There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.

Anti Virus developers try to group all types as viruses into their ad campaigns of fear.  They do a poor job of the detecting and isolating the adware and malware.  Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance.

There is one app, Malwarebytes, which was developed by a long time contributor to these forums and a highly respected member of the computer security community, that is designed solely to seek out adware and known malware and remove it.  The free version is more than adequate for most users.

Unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's, school's or bank's servers, they provide false security from a privacy standpoint.  Read these two articles: Public VPN's are anything but private and Security Risks: The Dangers of Using Free VPNs (eccu.edu).

Additionally, a new study ("Apple Offers Apps With Ties to Chinese Military”) is specifically about VPN apps in Apple’s App Store. Also they adversely affect system and app performance.
