I have a iPhone 17e — a couple of months old. My phone app keeps appearing on and off @ 2.3 GB. One day it’s at 2.3GB and the next day it’s at a few hundred MB. I’ve cleaned the app completely of old VM’s and recent calls.
Any ideas?

Out of curiosity, is it always 2.03 gigs exactly? On the upper end of the fluctuation range, I mean.
And you didn’t open any web pages, or leave tabs open in your browser, or used any apps?
Another possible reason: when you delete content the storage it occupied is immediately marked as “deleted”, but the space is actually recovered in background when the iPhone isn’t “busy”, a process called “garbage collection."
The iPhone caches content from apps and browsers, which will increase storage use. When the caches clear this storage is recovered.

I understand that, but I have zero voicemail messages saved. I cleared them completely weeks ago and it keeps going back to 2.3GB — then the next day it drops to less than 300MB — I did nothing. No new voicemail messages. It just jumps up.
When I updated to 26.4.2 — it dropped below 300MB — then a few days later it went back to 2.3GB
Yes but, I don’t understand what that has to do with the Phone app. Today it’s at 21.6MB. At the end if the day it’s not a big deal, I was just curious why it grows to 2.3GB and then goes to 21.6MB — unless other data is being “stored” in the phone app which doesn’t make sense.

Here is what it looks like this morning. Not one call or voicemail over the weekend. 21.7MB — tomorrow it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s back to 2.3GB
