iPhone 13 overheating and apps crashing after iOS 26.4.2 update – Can I downgrade?

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 26.4.2 and I am facing serious performance issues:

  • Apps are not working properly and crash frequently
  • Phone gets very hot even during normal usage
  • Overall performance has degraded a lot

I feel iOS 26 is too heavy for the iPhone 13 hardware. I want to downgrade to iOS 15 or whatever version is most stable and compatible with iPhone 13.

My questions:

  1. Is downgrading still possible? Is Apple still signing any older iOS version for iPhone 13?
  2. What is the safest way to downgrade without losing my data?
  3. Which iOS version do you recommend for best performance on iPhone 13?

Any help from the community or Apple staff would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello 👋

Downgrade is impossible, the only times where you can downgrade is just to the previous iOS update during a couple of days ! So like now you could just downgrade to iOS 26.4.1 (but that’s almost useless)

Downgrade is also bad for many reasons and the main one is for security reasons ! So that’s why Apple prevents downgrades !

If your iPhone is slow, it might be because it’s hot ! I suggest you to check those articles :
