What year iMac? iMacs have been around in various forms and display types since 1998!
iMacs made after 2011 have a sealed display assembly that includes the cover glass. It is an expensive part and probably cannot be done while you wait. The high cost means that if your iMac is older, it may not be economically feasible to have it repaired.
Also Apple does not work on devices it classes as "vintage" or obsolete. See this listing:
