The page is a source of the vulgar fractions. as is alt-codes, as is the rest of the ‘net.

You copy the fractions or whatever other unicode characters — and just the characters — from there.

In Safari, select the target fraction. Just the fraction. Not any additional text. Select Copy from the cut-and-paste pop-up controls:

Then go to the text replacement configuration. Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement. Add a replacement using the ➕ sign. Then tap on the Phrase field. Select Paste to paste the character you want to display.

Give the new replacement a name. VF03 is used here. Save.

Done.

Typing VF03 gets ↉ just as soon as it is entered:

I used VF0 3 (with a space) in the image to allow entering those four characters without performing the substitution, then went back and removed the space to insert it without performing the substitution, as it is now shown in this reply.

Above screenshots are from iPad. iPhone will differ slightly. Mac will differ a little more, particularly around the cut-and-paste displays.

Instead of copying the character info, double-click the symbol.

You’re current list may have had more to the substitution than you had intended.

Once you are in the With field, that is where you launch the character viewer from (ctrl+cmd+space) and then a double-click of the symbol will insert it into the With field. You can also construct custom vulgar fractions by selecting and double-clicking:

• a superscript digit
• a division slash
• one or more subscript digits

When you are done entering content into the With field, press return to set it.

You should just copy the character itself, instead of “character info”…

then paste into the replacement box
