iPhone 16 Pro Max Stopped Charging after Update

My iPhone 16 PM stopped charging after a software update. I took it to BestBuy & Apple to get evaluated, but they're quoting me $600+ to get it fixed. My phone is over a year old, and I don't have any insurance on it. Is there any way to get trade-in value for my phone because Apple offered nothing?

I am very frustrated & refuse to update any of my other devices after this. Even the Apple employee said that sometimes this happens after updates...

it is obviously iOS issue. sent 3 phones down to apple with the same issue unable to charge after iOS 26. first was my original phone. 2nd was a replace brand new phone by apple. 3rd was a refurbished phone by apple. all within a month of each other. even apple does not know why the phone main board became faulty. everything was clean and good. no water damage, no dent, etc.

I have done a search and most cases of iPhone 16 pro max being unable to charge is on iOS 26.

Report this to Apple...

So, do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of you occurrences, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Charging issues are not always the fault of the iOS update!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

because I am a software engineer. like I said, here or somewhere else, Samsung had issues with their software updates and OLED display which they tried to deny but in the end, they had to admit it. same thing, not all display had issues with the new update. so it is a fact that firmware/software updates can cause issue with certain limited hardware and it affects individual hardware differently.

Troubleshooting iPhone Charging:

Visit the following links for tips on troubleshooting this...

I. Try what is on this Link: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't Turn on or is Frozen - Apple Support

II. View the Battery Health:

Apple recommends you get a new battery, once the Battery Health reaches 80% or lower. When the Battery Health is 80% or lower, it is time for a new battery.

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: Battery
  3. Tap: Battery Health
  4. View: [the percentage]
  5. Is it 80% or less?  If so, it is time for a new battery.

III. Perform a Restart:

Try Force Restarting your iPhone. Save any information that need be. Then perform the restart.

Go Here: Force Restart iPhone - Apple Support

Sorry, but if iOS 26 update stopped phones from charging, it would do it to all phones, not just a few indiscriminately. And this forum would be blown up with people complaining, but it's not. The tech press would be all over this, but they're not. That doesn't mean you don't have an issue, but blaming the iOS update is a guess on your part. What needs to be determined is what caused this to happen to you. But if it was determined the main board failed, that can't be blamed on the update.

what are the odds that using the same charging facilities on iPhone 15pro max and 16 pro max and 3 x 16 pro max had the same mainboard failure? lottery numbers anyone?

Regardless of what happened, posting about it here will get you nothing. This isn't Apple Support. This is a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't actively participate. If you're looking for anyone here to agree that the software update caused this, you've come to the wrong forum. If you want to argue your point, argue it with Apple.
