How to prevent screen protector damage on MacBook Air M5?

Hello. I just bought my MacBook Air M5 and I have already bought a screen protector and have it placed on it. I have just read that it will eventually cause damage to screen. What can I do to avoid long-term damage? Will removing the protector okay or should I just leave it?
