Apple ID password reset error: "not valid or not supported

Hello Apple Support,

I’m having an issue with my Apple ID.

My account is currently signed in on my iPhone, but when I try to reset the password using iforgot.apple.com, I get the error:

“This Apple Account is either not valid or not supported.”

I also see that the trusted devices list is not available on my iPhone, and I’m unable to reset the password directly from the device.

Because of this, I cannot sign out of the Apple ID or manage the account.

Could you please:

1. Check the status of this Apple ID on your system

2. Help me recover or reset the password

3. Advise how I can remove this Apple ID from my device if recovery is not possible

I can provide proof of purchase for the device if needed.

Thank you.

Hi diasalehs

welcome to this Apple (user-to-user) Community.

Re: "Hello Apple Support, I’m having an issue with my Apple ID".

Seems you have posted your request for assistance where Apple Support is unlikely to see or respond to it. We are all Apple users, just as you are, in this community, and no-one here has access to your accounts or details in order to help. We can volunteer some useful info.

Re: "I get the error":

“This Apple Account is either not valid or not supported.”

Seems you have signed in to your iPhone with your details and not yet had them verified by Apple.

So am wondering if you have actually created an Apple Account yet:

If not: See Apple Support's YouTube video: "Create an Apple Account"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPLdGDbWFag

You can check whether you are signed in to your device with the correct Apple Account details: Go to Settings > Apple Account or {your name} > Choose or check the sign-in method.

If you have made setting changes you may want to:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support to update them.

If you do already have an existing Apple Account:

Possibly the device you are using may not be one that Apple "trusts",

ie: a device that has previously accessed your account, and is listed there.

Re: 1. Check the status of this Apple ID on your system

Apple ID is now called Apple Account:

You can try logging in to an existing Apple account online:

(See link above for obtaining a verification code)

2. Help me recover or reset the password

For a forgotten password for an existing account:

Verify your account information to reset your password.

If all else fails: Recovery of an existing account is generally possible. However it may take a few days:

Thank you for your thoughtful reply, as you try to help your friend.

I don't know for sure, but the iPhone with the Apple account that generates the "not valid or not supported" message may have been locked for security of the data on it. This could happen because of too many unsuccessful attempts to log-in, or to reset the password.

If so, the Account owner may need to prove rightful ownership of the account / iPhone to Apple, in order for them to remove the lock. Apple may need to know for sure it is not allowing access to unlawful use of the Apple Account / iPhone. Many people have financial info stored there, and that needs to be kept secure.

Hi brbo,

Thank you for your detailed reply and for taking the time to help — I really appreciate it.

I understand that this is a user-to-user community, and that’s actually why I posted here. I’ve tried multiple times to contact Apple Support directly, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any way to start a chat or reach them. I’m currently in Palestine, and it seems like chat or phone support options are not available to me, and I don’t have access to an international phone number to call.

Regarding the issue: this Apple Account does exist and is currently signed in on my friend’s iPhone (iPhone 17 Pro Max). However, they forgot the password, and we’ve been trying to reset it.

When attempting to reset the password using iforgot.apple.com, we consistently get the message:

“This Apple Account is either not valid or not supported.”

I also tried helping them using the Apple Support app on my own iPhone, but I received the same error there as well.

Additionally, on the iPhone where the account is signed in, the trusted devices list is not available, which makes me think there might be an issue with the account itself.

At this point, we’re unable to reset the password, sign out of the account, or access Apple Support directly.

If you have any further suggestions or insights, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks again for your help.
