How to require double tap on passcode screen when using Voiceover.

My wife is visually impaired and uses Voiceover to operate her IPhone. She just just acquired an IPhone 17e. Usually when using voiceover the passcode and lockscreen are set so that one has to double tap each number before it is selected. This is so that, when you can't see the screen, it allow for incorrect numbers to be touched before the correct one is found and selected. However, with her new phone, even with Voiceover on, each number on the passcode screen is being selected as soon as it is touched, making it very difficult for her to unlock her phone independently. Can anyone please advise to change the settings so that a double tap is required?
