Enhanced voices: Incorrect French pronunciation on iOS/macOS

When listening to spoken content on iOS 18.7 or macOS 15.7,

the French pronunciation is sometimes incorrect.

The issue can be reproduced with this French sentence :

Je mandate.

The pronunciation is incorrect with these French voices :

• Audrey (Enhanced)

• Audrey (Premium)

• Aurélie (Enhanced)

• Thomas (Enhanced)

But surprisingly the pronunciation is correct with these French voices :

• Audrey

• Aurélie

• Thomas

Why does the pronunciation get incorrect with higher-quality voices ?

How can this issue be solved ?

Siri can struggle with spelling because it relies on voice recognition, which can misinterpret words based on pronunciation, background noise or accents.

It doesn’t always confirm context before responding, which can lead to mistakes.

If that happens, you can correct Siri’s transcription mistakes by saying something like “No, I said…” followed by the correct word or you can tap the text Siri showed on screen and edit it manually before sending.
