iPhone 17 battery health drop to 99% normal?

I have been using my iphone 17 for almost 6 months now. The charging limit is set to 90% and my current cycle count is at 124. The battery health dropped to 99% yesterday. I just wanna ask if that is normal or is it too fast?

Yes, completely normal and actually better than expected. On average, for every 50 cycles, an iPhone 17 battery can lose about 1% in battery health. At 124 cycles, your battery should be at 97%-98%. In my case, on my iPhone 17 Pro Max, my battery health dipped to 99% at 47 cycles.

Maybe send flowers to Apple for your good fortune.

@lobsterghost1 That's completely normal. After about 6 months and 124 charge cycles, seeing battery health drop to 99% isn't something I'd worry about. Battery health doesn't decrease in a perfectly steady way, and even with a 90% charging limit, some natural wear is expected. I'd just keep using it normally and only start paying closer attention if the health begins dropping much faster over the next several months.

Your battery is doing amazingly well. You should be very happy.

The battery should be at about 97-98% at this point.

The battery in the iPhone 17 was designed to go up to 1,000 Charge Cycles before the Battery Health declines to 80%. That works out to a 1% decline for every 50 Charge Cycles.

Your phone has completed 124 cycles at this point, so 124 divided by 50 = 2.5%. If tenths of a percent counted, the battery would be at 100% minus 2.5% = 97.5%.

Apple rounds down anything after the decimal point, so 97.5% would display as 97%. The 99% that you see now might actually be anywhere between 99.9% to 90.1%.

Lucky you. Other users reading this are wondering why their luck is not as good as yours.

You’re doing pretty good with your battery results. 👌🏼

All rechargeable batteries are consumable components that become less effective as they chemically age.

Recent software updates can accelerate that process by adding features that consume more power.

As lithium-ion batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in shorter amounts of time before a device needs to be recharged.

Li Ion (Lithium Ion) batteries have recharging capabilities; however there are limits.

Temperature Effects on Li Ion Battery Life:

  • Capacity loss in standby applications is largely determined by temperature
  • Annual capacity loss tends to decline as the battery ages
  • 80% remaining capacity is generally not the end of a lithium battery's useful life, but recommended by Apple for replacement

I recommend to slow charge your iPhone to maximize the charge capacity, battery health and efficiency. ⚡️🔋

NOTE: Temperature: Charge above -30°C and Discharge below 55°C. Apple won’t replace the battery until it reaches 80% capacity.

I have a iPhone 17 pro max. I got it around January 2026. My maximum capacity went to 99%.

As I had mentioned in my original post, Lithium Ion batteries are consumable products with a limited life span.

Your numbers look fantastic. At the rate your going, you are above average. 👍🏼

Only 1% in 6 months is unbelievable.

Take care! 👋🏼😉

Same with my ip17. 303 cycles at 91% 😭 I'm here looking for someone whose the same as my mine.

No two iPhones will have the same Battery Health. Batteries are not identical, thus battery health isn't exact, nor linear. The way someone uses their phone is not identical to anyone else. At 303 cycles, your health is a "little" lower than someone else with the same cycle count might be. But it is not significantly lower. 303/50 = 6.06. It would be more normal, if your battery health was in the 93% range, so a couple points isn't unusual or reason for concern.

Things to do:

  1. NEVER deplete your battery to 0% - Doing so, will age an iPhone Battery Faster.
  2. Avoid running the phone lower than 20% - Same as above.
  3. DO plug your phone in to charge when you go to bed at night and leave it on charge ALL night, EVERY night, with Optimized Battery Charging enabled.
  4. Stop worrying about the natural decline in Battery Health. It can't be stopped, so when your battery dips to 80% or just below, that's when you pay Apple to replace the battery.

thank you so much! this reassured me a lot 🥲 i try my best to take care of my iphone since i want it to last for a long time hahaha, tho i do hope i have good fortune as well.

Just enjoy the phone. There is no way to stop Battery Health decline. When the day comes that the battery dips to 80%, that's when you pay Apple to replace the battery. And that day will come if you own the phone long enough, so worrying about the natural decline of your battery is a waste of worry.

The measure of battery health deterioration/drainage is subjective and can vary depending on individual usage patterns. There is no universal standard to determine whether the battery health deterioration/drainage is normal or abnormal because it heavily relies on how the battery is used and maintained.

To prolong the life of your iPhone battery, you can follow these tips and best practices:

  1. Optimize Battery Charging: Enable the "Optimized Battery Charging" feature on your iPhone. It helps reduce the wear on the battery by slowing down the battery aging process. You can find this option in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone - Apple Support (IN)
  2. Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can negatively impact your battery life. Avoid exposing your iPhone to excessive heat or cold, such as leaving it in direct sunlight or in a freezing car.If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold – Apple Support (UK)
  3. Use Original Chargers and Cables: Always use Apple's original chargers and cables or certified third-party accessories. Low-quality chargers or cables can damage the battery and reduce its lifespan. Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories - Apple Support (IN)
  4. Avoid Draining the Battery to Zero: Charge it whenever the charge becomes lower than 20%. The rest is up to you when to charge. how long to charge, how often to charge, which adapter to use starting from 5W to 140W USB-C Power Adapter etc.
  5. Optimize Display Settings: Adjust your display settings to optimize battery life. Lower the screen brightness, enable auto-brightness, and use shorter screen timeout durations. Adjust the display and text size on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)
  6. Minimize Background App Refresh: Limit the number of apps allowed to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and disable it for apps that don't require real-time updates. Switch apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

I'm not sure WHY you're telling me this? I suggested in the Top Ranked post that it is completely normal. You must have meant to respond to someone other than me?
