iPhone 17 Pro Max: Voice messages not switching to earpiece

Hi everyone,

I have iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.4.2 and I'm experiencing an issue with voice messages not switching to the earpiece speaker when I bring the phone to my ear.

The problem:

When I play a voice message and bring the phone to my ear, the proximity sensor works correctly (screen turns off), but the audio does NOT switch from the loudspeaker to the earpiece. The voice message continues playing through the loudspeaker. When I bring the phone to my ear I also hear clicking sounds (tick tick) as if the system is trying to switch but cannot complete it.

Where the problem occurs:

WhatsApp ❌

Instagram ❌

Facebook ❌

TikTok ❌

Where it works perfectly:

Telegram ✅

Signal ✅

Regular phone calls work fine — earpiece switches normally.

What I have already tried:

Reset all settings

Reinstalled iOS via Recovery Mode

Reinstalled WhatsApp

Contacted Apple Support via chat — no solution found

Contacted WhatsApp Support — no reply yet

Nothing helped.

I switched from Android to iPhone using Move to iOS, but I'm not sure if that is related.

Has anyone with iPhone 17 Pro Max experienced the same issue? Did you find a solution?

Thank you!

The app developer may not have updated their software to ensure compatibility with the iOS version your device is currently running.

If you encounter any challenges with third-party applications, the best course of action is to directly contact the app developer for further assistance. Here's a brief guide on how to do it:

  1. Identify the app developer.
  2. Visit their website or app store listing.
  3. Look for their contact information or support channels.
  4. Clearly describe the issue you are facing.
  5. Provide any necessary information they may need.
  6. Follow their instructions and provide feedback.
  7. Be patient and follow up if needed.

By reaching out to the app developer, you increase your chances of receiving accurate and personalized support for the challenges you're experiencing. To contact an App developer --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Thank you for your response. I understand these are not Apple products. However, the issue is that Telegram and Signal work perfectly fine on the same device with the same iOS version. This suggests the problem may be related to how iOS handles audio routing API for third party apps. I have already contacted WhatsApp support but received no reply. I believe this is worth investigating on Apple's side as well.
